WADE IN TODAY'S BOSTON HERALD!!!!!!

----------
So long Hazel Mae - we hope not too long
By Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa | Friday, June 27, 2008 | The Inside Track
Boston Herald

Today we must bid a fond - and sad - farewell to NESN vixen Hazel Mae, who will do her final “SportsDesk” update tonight, wrapping up four fun-filled years at the Red Sox [team stats] station.

As of yesterday, Hazel had disappeared from NESN’s Web site and the guessing games began on where Mae may end up. The hot rumor du jour: Comcast Sports Net, which hosts the Celtics [team stats]. But we’re told that isn’t happening - at the moment, anyway. And for what it’s worth, the longtime Hazel-to-ESPN scenario is also reportedly a non-starter. Which leaves the speculation around Channel 4, which recently jettisoned longtime sports anchor Bob Lobel.

Mae is mum on her future plans, saying she has no new gig yet. However, that may be because her contract with NESN doesn’t run out until the end of next month.

Whatev, as long as Hazel remains in the jurisdiction, we are good with it. Because the Toronto import has been nothing but fun, fun, fun since landing in the Hub.

Hazel was a regular on the dating circuit and had no compunction about stepping out with the guys she covered. In fact, Mae once told an Internet blogger that NESN had no rules against hooking up with players - and if they did, she wouldn’t work there!

She dated ex-Celtic Ricky Davis and ESPN “SportsCenter” anchor Steve Levy and was linked to ex-Toronto Blue Jay Kevin Barker. On WEEI she joked with yakker Mike Adams about wearing a thong.

The fun-lovin’ jock-talker was so popular with the male NESN viewers, a cardboard cutout of Hazel sold for $400 on eBay. Comedian Adam Wade wrote an “Ode to Hazel Mae” about the “SportsDesk” siren and got a gazillion hits when he put it on his Web site.

The departure of Mae, who hosted the “Ultimate Red Sox Show” and “The Buzz,” in addition to “SportsDesk” is the second high-profile exit from NESN in four months. In February, Sox go-to gal Tina Cervasio left the station after failing to agree on a new contract. NESN replaced Tina with California blow-in Heidi Watney.
