COCO BEWARE! SOX SWEEP METS!

I am not going to bash the Mets, because I have enjoyed watching them this year, and I like the team very much - no joke!

On the other hand, the Sox are HOT! And I am lovin' it.

Coco Crisp had an 'all out' awesome game last night.

Representing ADAMWADE.COM last night at Fenway was Rob "Lou Gorman" Herman and Matt "My bro" Wade sitting behind homeplate.

WADE'S FOLKS VISIT WADE! 2 THUMBS UP!

The past 48 were awesome, surreal, and emotional.

My parents came to visit me for the first time in Hoboken/New York.

We had a great time.

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED:
-My mom getting a parking ticket in Hoboken (not the highlight part) and my dad realizing I don't need a car here (highlight).

-My mom seeing Stone Phillips outside of NBC and not being very impressed, and my dad commenting that Stone is not as tall as they said he was on the NBC tour.

-My dad standing his ground, but also keeping his cool on the bus when a Fat English Guy tried to give him a hard time.

-(Deadwood fans would appreciate this highlight) My dad doing his 'Richardson the cook' thumbs up impersonation about 500 times in 48 hours, hilarious every time!

The real Richardson from Deadwood.

WADE IN NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE ON JERSEY COMEDY

CHECK IT OUT - from this past Sunday's New York Times
(NO joke! I'm at the end of the article.)

If you can't see it, here it is:

NY TIMES
A Summer's Worth of Good Humor
June 23, 2006
By NEIL GENZLINGER and CARLA BARANAUCKAS
KRAMER once had an idea for a cologne that would make you smell as if you had just come from the beach. The "Seinfeld" season finale in 1997 was titled "The Summer of George." But it's Jerry Seinfeld himself, rather than one of his television sidekicks, who starts off New Jersey's comedic summer with two shows on Thursday at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. And Bill Lockwood, for one, is thrilled.

"I've been pursuing him for four years," said Mr. Lockwood, who books acts for the center. "I think I just wore him down by attrition."

Mr. Seinfeld's appearance is a bit of a departure for NJPAC, Mr. Lockwood said, because the center spends much of the summer dark, gearing up for the fall, and because its size means it doesn't book a lot of comedy. Mr. Seinfeld, he said, is one of the few stand-up comedians today who can fill NJPAC's 2,800 seats, and landing him makes a statement of sorts.

"In a way, you don't take your place among the big boys until you've had Jerry Seinfeld," Mr. Lockwood said.

NJPAC's long pursuit paid off quickly at the box office: both Seinfeld shows have been sold out for some time. Fans with diligence and deep pockets might still find tickets, however — a pair were posted on eBay last week at $349.99.

But Mr. Seinfeld isn't the only master of the New Jersey comedy domain. From the big rooms at the casinos in Atlantic City to the cozy confines of the state's many stand-up clubs, the humor is on.

Rita Rudner, who appears at Harrah's in Atlantic City on July 7 and 8, is no stranger to New Jersey audiences. Although she can usually be seen in Las Vegas, where she is wrapping up a five-year run at New York-New York, she said she is looking forward to being back in Atlantic City, despite the change in climate.

"I'll be going from a dry heat to a little bit more humidity," Ms. Rudner said in a telephone interview. "My hair will be a bit more challenged."

She finds that in the summer New Jersey audiences have a singular charm.

"They're dressed more casually," she said. "You find more people in thongs. You get to see more feet in the summer than in the winter and more knees."

Is that good or bad? "It depends on the feet and the knees. You have to take each case individually, like a lawyer."

Also plying his trade near the boardwalk this summer will be Jim Gaffigan, who appears in the new film "The Great New Wonderful" and has two shows at the Borgata on July 15. His specialty is a conversation with the audience in which he does both parts.

This summer marks a bit of a milestone for Mr. Gaffigan, because all his bookings this year are in theaters, where the audience is coming specifically to see him, as opposed to comedy clubs, where the audience comes to see a random collection of comics.

"When you go onstage and they know who you are, it's very liberating," he said. "You can take the training wheels off."

New Jersey comedy fans certainly appear to know who he is; initially booked for one show at the Borgata, he added a second after the first sold out.

Mr. Gaffigan, whose affable style has its roots in his Indiana childhood, said in a phone interview that summer audiences "are definitely a different animal" for a comic. A day at the beach can put a person in a carefree frame of mind, but at the same time all that sun and outdoor air can take its toll later.

"It's kind of like hanging around with a 10-year-old," he said. "Yeah, they're really fun. But at 10 o'clock, they're done."

Other big-name comics scheduled at the casinos this summer include Dom Irrera, at the Borgata on July 1; Andrew Dice Clay, at the Borgata on July 7; Margaret Cho, at the House of Blues on July 29; Lewis Black, at the Borgata on Aug. 11 and 12; and Don Rickles, at Resorts on Aug. 12 and 13. Other large halls also have a smattering of humor: Ms. Cho is scheduled for the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank on Aug. 4, and Mr. Black is booked there Aug. 24; something calling itself Opie & Anthony's Traveling Virus (with the bill including Carlos Mencia and Bob Saget) is booked for the PNC Bank Arts Center on Aug. 26.

Lesser-known comics will also be working hard in the state in the summer heat, at clubs like Catch a Rising Star in Princeton, the Stress Factory in New Brunswick, and the Comedy Shoppe and the 88 Keys Lounge in Iselin. The art of small-room comedy definitely changes with the season.

"As far as summer comedy, basically I think it's far more difficult," said Geoff Haggerty of the outlandish troupe Elephant Larry, which has been filling up the Pit in New York on Saturday nights and makes its New Jersey debut at the Goldhawk in Hoboken on July 23. "As comedians, you're typically performing indoors and thus competing with that dreaded phenomenon known as 'the outdoors.' It's tough to compete against warm, beautiful weather."

Perhaps it all comes down to appliances. Adam Wade, a Hoboken comic who is scheduled to appear at the Goldhawk on July 24, said no one appreciates properly functioning air-conditioning like a stand-up comic.

"Summer crowds can sometimes be harder to work depending on the heat control of the performance space," he said. "If it's hot and sticky, you've really got to work them; they're usually tougher to please. If it's really hot and humid outside and you're in a cool place, well, it's certainly easier."

THAT MIX TAPE - continued part 4 ending

[songs 9-10 of the mix tape]

9) Bruce Springsteen – Brilliant Disguise
It’s a mysterious song, and I think one of the Boss’ best. The following lyrics rang true for me. I think it goes back to when good things happen to you, sometimes instead of saying, “Yeah, I am going to enjoy this.” You say… “Wow, this is great luck, but.. why me? This can’t/shouldn't be happening to me?”

I hold you in my arms as the band plays
What are those words whispered baby just as you turn away
I saw you last night out on the edge of town
I wanna read your mind and know just what I’ve got in this new thing I’ve found
So tell me what I see when I look in your eyes
Is that you baby or just a brilliant disguise

10) The Beatles – She Loves You
Amen, this song is as close to perfection as it gets. The very beginning and especially the last 25 seconds.
Amy's Sears’ Catalog came out we had a pizza dinner at John’s in the West Village. When the check came she pulled it out of my hands and said she’d pay the bill. “Well, I got the tip.” I responded and then she blurted out, “I love you.”

With a love like that,
You know you sho-o-ould
Be Glad!
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah Ye-ah.
-------------------------------

[Apologies -
These are the actual songs that were on mix tape. For the people who commented and email me, well, I'm sorry that I didn't put any:
-Van Halen
-Steely Dan
-Quiet Riot
-Los Lobos
-Twisted Sister
-Winger
-George Thorogood
-Irish Drinking songs
-Howard Stern Song Parodies
-Audio bytes from Family Guy
-Greek Music ('Never on a Sunday')
-Huey Lewis ]

THAT FIRST MIX TAPE: continued part 3

(for part 1/teaser and part 2... scroll down to yesterday's post and Wednesday's)
[songs 5-8 of the mix tape]
-------------------------

5) Satellite of Love – Lou Reed
I bought Lou Reed’s Greatest Hits my junior year in high school. But this song really didn’t click until I moved to New York. Lou Reed is New York.

We actually saw Mr. Reed near Astor Place. We were heading to the bowling alley near there. He looked as cool as can be.

Amy won big that night. I mean she wasn’t just good at bowling, she was great. She wasn’t trying every time she rolled, and I knew it. I could tell by the way she moved her body to roll. When she really wanted to, those pins fell.

Satellite’s gone
Way up to mars
Soon it will be filled
With parking cars
I watch it for a little while
I love to watch things on tv
Satellite of love

6) Michael Penn – No Myth
One night she was cooking a special dinner for me and this awesome 80's song came on the clock radio in her apartment. I never told her this, but that night she didn’t cook the fish enough. I got sick and missed the next two days of work. I spent most of the time on the toilet. She called me a few times to check in and I just told her I had the flu.

The fish dinner consisted of:
Pan fried catfish
Boiled grass leaves
Brown rice and low-fat plain yogurt.

FACT/NO MYTH:
She spent a long time making this meal. I didn't have the heart to tell her she got me sick.

So, she says it's time she goes
but wanted to be sure I know
she hopes we can be friends
I think, yeah, I guess we can say I
but didn't think to ask her why
she blocked her eyes and drew the curtains
with knots I've got yet to untie

7) Far Away Eyes – Rolling Stones
Stones doing country. It’s got a steel guitar and Mick thinking he’s Hank Williams. It works, trust me.

I always used to get her flowers. I mean, I never got anything expensive, just what you see outside the delis. BUT she loved them and always got really happy when I gave them to her. Her eyes would light up. It was like I was giving her the greatest gift humanly possible.

So if you're down on your luck
I know you all sympathize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if you're downright disgusted
And life ain't worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes

8) Me and Bobby McGee – Grateful Dead Version
Yes, I know Janis’ version is the most famous, but this live version from a Dead album was one I used to play over and over. No, Amy and I never took a road trip together (unless you call 4 stops on the D train a road trip), but now when I play this ‘we’re on the road, we’re right there.’

Freedoms just another word for nothin left to lose,
And nothin left was all she left to me,
Feelin good was easy, lord, when bobby sang the blues,
And buddy, that was good enough for me.
Good enough for me and bobby mcgee.

coming this weekend

THAT FIRST MIX TAPE: continued part 2

(for part 1/teaser... scroll down to yesterday's post)

But this list isn’t so much about our relationship, it’s not even about heartbreak. It’s more about what lives on. Great music, good times, solace, and a feeling that love is still out there. If it happened once, it can happen again. There’s hope.

[songs 1-4 of the mix tape]

1) Sweet Emotions – Aerosmith
What a great way to start things. A rocking song that was in the movie Dazed and Confused – a movie that we were watching in her apartment when we shared our first kiss.

2) Simple Twist of Fate – Bob Dylan
Amy was really into Dylan and so was I. Blood on the Tracks is just an awesome album and this is one of my favorite lyrics ever.

He hears the ticking of the clocks
And walks along with a parrot that talks,
Hunts her down by the waterfront docks where the sailors all come in.
Maybe she'll pick him out again, how long must he wait
Once more for a simple twist of fate.

3) California Blue – Roy Orbison

I have always loved Roy Orbison (my nickname in junior high school was ROY THE BOY – no joke), but the reason why I put this on the mix was that I figured I would be the one that moved on. Yep, I thought I’d leave New York City for Hollywood. (This didn’t happen, I’m still here.) Now when I hear the song, I dream that she didn’t go home to work at the local Pharmacy, but that was just a brief pit-stop and SHE’S the one in California. She’s California Blue.

Living my life with you on my mind

Thinking of things that I left far behind
Its been so long doing all I can do
To get back to you california blue

4) Hazel – Bob Dylan
The opening of this song is so good! Dylan is the man!

Hazel, dirty-blonde hair
I wouldn't be ashamed to be seen with you anywhere.
You got something I want plenty of
Ooh, a little touch of your love.

Yes, there is ANOTHER WADE out there, Dwayne!
And he's been giving me quite a bit of traffic on this site (thanks google).

Wade did play well last night (and this Wade played well last night too, shooting foul shots in the park in Hoboken).

Congrats to both Wades!

THE FIRST MIX TAPE: teaser

Here's a teaser of something I've been working on. Interested in seeing what you think.
----------------------------------

(May 2006)
Recently a friend of mine asked me to make a mixed tape (cd) for her. This request sent me searching, not for songs for her, but rather for a copy I had of the first 'mix' I made for a girl.

(Dec 1999)
Amy was a waitress who wanted to become a model/actress. She actually did some work for Sears as a model in the female intimate apparel section of their catalog. That was the pinnacle of her career before she decided that it was time to move back home to Kansas City to live with her folks and work at a pharmacy. In doing so, she left me with 10 songs and the memory of her.

I have listened to their WFAN sports show for years. It was very, very cool.

FUN LATE LATE AFTERNOON IN HOBOKEN!

Fun was had in Hoboken (this is actually our 'goodbye' photo)!

Chelsea and the great John Kim (visiting from the wet coast, my NEW FRIEND!!! Thanks Italian Tuna!!!!) came into Hoboken last Friday for the Italian Tuna from Fiore's, made "sort of" famous by our movie about it.

John eating the Italian Tuna long before I got there. I was in the city working hard. But I would show up (I actually ran to the coffee shop they were at).

Chelsea's hands smelled like Italian Tuna... well,
I saved the day with a Wet Nap I had on me- no joke! (There's a surplus of these babies at work.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATT WADE!

Today is Matt Wade's birthday!
Happy B day, Matty!!!!

I am very lucky that Matty is my brother, he's the best!

Matt Wade Fun Facts:
As a member of St. George's elementary school squad, he scored between 22-40 points, beating cross-city rival St Catherine's (CYO basketball).

Once declared that he would get a tattoo of 'famous Red Sox player.'

Would always pick me up after work in high school, on time.

Lived in the 'rear' of a barber shop in graduate school.

At 25 years old, he made this statement, "I can throw that tennis ball 100 mile per hour."

In his first trip to New York to visit me, he walked up to the velvet ropes of a very fancy club in flip-flops, a Red Sox t shirt and flannel shorts and told the two huge bouncers that they should let us in because he "Was a Kennedy!*"

*note we were not let into the club.
