SAD NEWS IN DETROIT
THE KRONK GYM IN DETROIT IS CLOSING!
I worked out there last year when 'Classic Now' was in Motown for the Superbowl.
The people in the gym were all real cool guys. I even bought a shirt to show my support. It's a shame one of the rich and famous boxers didn't come through with some cash. I guess they forgot about their roots.
(thanks Jeff Heyman for this note)
FROM AP --
DETROIT (AP) - The Kronk Gym, the dingy basement that helped
produced world champions Evander Holyfield and Oscar De La Hoya,
has closed.
Champions Thomas Hearns and Lennox Lewis also trained at Emanuel
Steward's gym, which had been struggling after thieves stole copper
pipes in September, cutting off its water supply.
Steward had been paying to keep the Kronk running for months
after Detroit shut down the recreation center that houses it
because of a budget shortfall.
The cost of fixing the plumbing and making other major repairs
led officials to decide to make the gym's shutdown permanent, said
the Recreation Department's deputy director, Lawrence Hemingway.
"It's the oldest rec center in the city. It has lived a useful
life," he told the Detroit Free Press in Wednesday's edition.

VOTING ENDS this Friday!
(A SANDWICH LEGEND) BOY I MISS THIS...

I had a TV job a few years back and they had food everywhere! I never starved working at this job.
AND EVERY FEW WEEKS OR SO... It was meatball hoagie day.
And these meatballs didn't have tomato sauce, they had 'teriyaki sauce.'
These hoagies were so impressive that I now need to also include a photo of the man who cooked them:

TODD!!!!
Todd, I hope you are well, and I hope you're still making the soon to be famous
'Todd's Teriyaki Meatballs.'

OTHER PEOPLE WORKING HARD!
Seriously, there was a long line and you guys were all on the ball.
I got my grande' regular and an ice water and I was good to go.
(FYI: Lately I've been getting snubbed of the ice water in other Starbucks in that area. Shame Shame!)
I even put a quarter in the tip jar - no joke!

About the Show:
Comedian and Storyteller (2006 Moth GrandSLAM Champion) Adam Wade struggled for 7 years in New York City before he landed an everyday gig as 'on-air talent' for ESPN'S “Classic Now” TV show. In WADE WORKS HARD, the ever-optimistic Wade takes us through his journey with videos, montages, clips and storytelling as only Adam Wade can tell it. From his various jobs and struggles we learn about the celebrities and personalities he got coffee for, the retired cop/security guard he arm wrestled on stage, the Hall of Fame pro football player whom he told off, and the TV star who gave him his first big break. With all of Wade's hard work, let's hope he's on his way to the top.

FAN EMAIL: ITALIAN TUNA ADVENTURE
My weekend highlight came on Saturday when I checked my email to find this:
SUBJECT: Fiore's Italian Tuna Sub feedback!
Hey Adam, you did real good on that video! Just recently got back from the 40th Year Reunion of Hoboken High School Class ‘o ’66 if you can imagine that! I sent a link to your video out to my Classmates via the Reunion committee and they love it! One comment was “pure genius” so watch out you may be the next James Cameron buddy!! You shoulda been there in the old days Adam! Hoboken was a hoot and full of more characters than you could shake a stick at!! You didn’t want to actually shake a stick at anyone though ‘cause that used to be a tough blue-collar town!!
America’s come a long way since those days thank God! OK, keep up the good work and we’re keepin’ an eye on you hoping great successes for you. If you ever get to Vegas, I’ll buy you a drink or whatever you prefer!!
Pete, living in Las Vegas but formerly of the 9th Street Projects
Thanks for the email, Pete!

|MUSIC FOR THE SOUL!
So, of course I found myself 'roaming' today and landed on The Defibulators' page.
The Defibulators served as 'The Rejection Show's' houseband last Wednesday. I really like their music and style.
If you like Country / Rockabilly / Bluegrass, you'll love them.
And they'll be at Maxwell's in Hoboken Jan 20th at 10pm.
Have yourself a listen.

I got word from a very close source to Van Halen that my favorite VH-er, bassist Michael Anthony is out and Eddie's son Wolfgang is in. I always thought Anthony had great comic timing (like a cross between Harpo Marx and a bearded Sam Kinison) and was a pretty good baseplayer.
Check him and the boys out on the greatest video of all time!

KUDOS TO THE MOTH GRAND SLAM

I won my first GRAND SLAM at THE MOTH last night.
I was lucky to share the stage with such great story-tellers, as well as the styling host, DAN KENNEDY and of course Katy Cox, on the violin.
A bunch of my friends got tickets (some traveled in as far as from Connecticut) to the show, and a few surprised me by showing up without me knowing. I hope you all had a good time.
Thanks for all the support!!!!!
Adam
ps the photo I took with the ladies in line for drinks will be on the site soon, as well as me on stage in my bath robe (no joke).

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: BOWLING IN HOBOKEN

Hello good people who visit my blog.
I have some very important news to tell you.
In the year 2022 I will be building a bowling alley in my beloved Hoboken.
Yes, it may seem like many years away, but i'm confident by then I will have the funds.
How many lanes?
Will I be selling hot dogs?
Will I have midnight glow in the dark bowling?
Where exactly will the bowling alley be in Hoboken?
Will I serve Italian Tuna sandwiches from Fiore's on Fridays?
Is it going to be called "Hoboken Wade Lanes?" or "Wade's Hoboken Bowlerama?"
Is the Heat Miser, AKA Cousin John going to be in charge of the bowling shoes?
Those are questions still yet yo be determined. but for now, buy some shoes, get some practice at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Because bowling will be coming to Hoboken later than sooner, but later indeed.
